University Mace

The university mace can be dated back to the 14th century. During the Middle
Ages, kings would travel with their knights who were armed each with a mace
as a weapon of protection and as a battle club. It came to symbolise authority
and strength. The university mace is now used to indicate the authority of
an academic institution to grant degrees to its graduands.

The UTAR Mace is designed in gold and silver as both these colours
signify strength, beauty, tradition and versatility. The colours crystallise
the vision and mission of UTAR’s founders, staff and students as well as the
aspirations of the people of Malaysia.

The globe symbolises UTAR’s vision of a dynamic, internationally recognised
premier university with a truly comparative perspective and a mission to
educate individuals who will be competent, considerate, productive and
                                  futuristic.

The helix represents UTAR’s commitment to meet the demands of the ever
changing and challenging times and to constantly strive for scholastic
                                  excellence.

an enabling and a supportive environment that inspires students to excel
and in the process achieve their highest potential spiritually, intellectually,
socially and physically as they prepare for their future.

                                  The emblem represents the university.

The pen nibs and the crystals represent UTAR’s commitment to be a leading
university offering education of the highest standard in all significant fields
aimed at fully developing the individual and to serve the nation better.

The national flower, Hibiscus on the staff, symbolises UTAR’s underlying
values - harmony, growth, transformation and perpetuity. The intertwined
flowers symbolise the unity of staff and students of the university.
